Sage
As the stick or loose sage starts to smoke, wave the smoke all over you, starting at your head & shoulders, over both arms & legs, not forgetting your torso, & all the way down to your toes. You may find it easier just to move the stick over your body, rather than use both hands, one to hold the feather & one to hold the smudge stick/bowl whichever suits you best.
Now you have got rid of any negative energy that is around you, keep the stick alight & smudge the area where your crystals will be kept.
Once you & the space you are working in have been smudged, you can turn your attention to your crystals.
To cleanse a tumblestone, pass it through the smoke, to make sure all sides are totally cleansed.
If you are cleansing a small obelisk or tower, hold it in your hand & pass the stick over it, from top to bottom & on all sides.
To cleanse crystal jewellery, pass the item through the smoke, to make sure all sides are totally cleansed.
If you are cleansing a large obelisk, pass the smudge stick all over it, from top to bottom & on all sides, don’t forget to have the bowl nearby to catch any ash, you don’t want burn marks on the carpet or furniture.
You can use a feather to move the smoke around the area of the obelisk or tower.
If you don’t like the smell of Palo Santo or sage, you can use incense fragranced with frankincense, myrrh, lotus, cedar or sweet grass instead.
When you have finished cleansing your crystals, put the lit end of the stick in the sand & leave it to go out.
You can reuse the smudge stick several times, before it needs replacing.
Palo Santo
You can smudge crystals with a Palo Santo stick.
Palo Santo is a South American tree related to Frankincense, Copal & Myrrh. In Spanish, it means Holy Wood.
To use a Palo Santo stick, light the tip, let burn for 30 seconds, gently blow out the flame & it’s ready to use.
Make sure to open a window to let the smoke take the negative energy out of the room & away from you.
Not only that, but it will stop the smoke alarms going off.
Before you start, you can ask the spirits of the Palo Santo tree to help you get rid of the negative energy, it might help you to connect to your crystals better.
Some people say they feel better if they have thanked the spirits before using the Palo Santo.
