Mini DTs – What Are DTs?

The mini DTs available on the website

If you've never heard the term double terminated, it might sound a little complicated, but it's not.

A DT has got a point at each end because the points let energy flow in & out of the crystal at the same time.

A double terminated crystal, often shortened to DT, has a point at both ends.

Unlike a crystal with one main point & a flat or broken end, a DT has a point at each end.

You can find DTs in different crystals & sizes & I've got mini ones, which are small enough to carry around, keep with your other crystals or use as part of a crystal grid, healing session or spell.

But there's more to the pointed crystal shape than you might realise.

Why are crystal points interesting?

Natural crystal points have interested people for a very long time.

Quartz in particular has been used by different cultures for decorative objects, jewellery & tools.

It's thought that Ancient Romans valued clear quartz & used it for carved objects & jewellery.

In Ancient China, clear quartz was also carved & used for decorative pieces & quartz crystal has been found in archaeological sites dating back thousands of years.

In some Native American traditions, quartz crystals have also been thought as objects with ceremonial or spiritual meaning, although beliefs & practices varied greatly between different peoples.

So the idea of a crystal point having a special quality isn't something that appeared with modern crystal shops; people have been fascinated by naturally formed crystals for a very long time.

What makes a DT different?

The obvious difference is that a DT has two points.

Some double terminated crystals form naturally when the crystal is able to grow freely rather than being attached at one end to a rock or another surface.

Others can be shaped or polished to create the double-terminated form.

Because there are two points, DTs can look quite different from ordinary crystal points & with a mini DT, you get all of that in a little crystal that fits comfortably in your hand.

How can you use a mini DT?

There's no single way you have to use one.

You could: add it to a crystal grid, display it with your other crystals, keep it beside your bed, hold it in your hand or put it in your bag or pocket or on your desk,

Crystal healers are said to use them to link two different energy points to get rid of any blocked energy.

Some people also like holding a DT while meditating or spending time with their crystals.

The important thing is that there's no rule saying you must use it in a particular way.

What about the crystal itself?

The double terminated shape doesn't change the crystal.

If your DT is amethyst, it's still amethyst.

If it's clear quartz, it's still clear quartz.

The crystal itself has its own properties, regardless of whether it's a carving, a DT, a piece of jewellery, tower, tumble or wand.

So when you're choosing one, you might choose it because you like the double-ended shape, you want a particular crystal, or because you like the way that particular piece looks.

Why choose a mini DT?

The small size makes these easy to carry around.

You can put one in a pocket or bag, keep it beside your computer while you're working, or have it sitting beside your bed.

They're also a good option if you like crystal shapes but don't have room for large pieces & because every natural crystal is different, even two DTs made from the same crystal can have completely different colours, markings & patterns.

A little care goes a long way

Like any crystal, it's worth taking a little care when carrying or storing a DT.

The points can be more vulnerable to knocks than a rounded tumble, so a small pouch or box can help protect it from getting damaged.

If you have several crystals together in a bag, it's also worth making sure they aren't all rattling around against each other.

Why choose a double terminated crystal?

Maybe you like the fact that it has a point at both ends, you like the look of the natural formation, or maybe you've already got plenty of towers & tumbles & you want something a little different, or perhaps you've never had a DT before.

Whatever the reason, a mini DT is another way of having a crystal & sometimes the shape is enough to make you pick one up & think, "I like that one." 😂💜
