If you love crystals but don't always want them sitting on a shelf, crystal jewellery is a great way to wear them instead.
At Crystal Charged, I have a mixture of bracelets, earrings & pendants made from a variety of different crystals.
Here's the jewellery available on the website:
Amber earrings, amethyst pendants, black obsidian pendant, black tourmaline bracelets, carnelian bracelets, chakra pendant, citrine bracelets, fluorite bracelets, gold sheen obsidian bracelets, iolite pendants, lapis lazuli bracelets, lapis lazuli pendants, leopardskin jasper pendants, rose quartz bracelets, rose quartz pendants, ruby in fuchsite pendants & sodalite bracelets
That's quite a selection! 😂
But jewellery made from crystals & gemstones is nothing new.
People have been wearing materials like these for thousands of years & different cultures have used them for decoration, personal meaning status & traditional beliefs.
Jewellery through history
Jewellery has been around for thousands of years & some of the materials we still use today have a very long history.
In Ancient Egypt, amethyst, carnelian & lapis lazuli were all used in jewellery. Archaeologists have found amulets, bracelets, necklaces & other jewellery containing these materials, lapis lazuli was particularly valuable because it had to be brought into Egypt from much further away.
In ancient Mesopotamia, jewellery was also used to show status & wealth.
Some of the most impressive examples have been found at the Royal Cemetery at Ur, where jewellery made from carnelian, gold & lapis lazuli was buried with members of the society's elite.
So when you put on a crystal bracelet, pair of earrings or pendant today, you're taking part in something that has a much longer history than you might realise.
Why wear crystal jewellery?
There are lots of reasons people choose crystal jewellery.
Maybe you want to enjoy your favourite crystal without keeping it at home, you like the way a particular crystal looks as a piece of jewellery, you want to choose a crystal based on its energy, or maybe you simply like the jewellery itself, that's one of the things I like about crystal jewellery; you don't need to have a complicated reason for wearing it.
It's a way of combining something you enjoy with something you can actually wear.
Bracelets
Bracelets are probably one of the easiest ways to wear crystals.
I've got several different crystal bracelets on the website, including black tourmaline, carnelian, citrine, fluorite, gold sheen obsidian, lapis lazuli, rose quartz & sodalite.
Each crystal has its own traditionally healing properties, so you can choose one based on the crystal you're drawn to, its colour, its appearance or its energy.
You don't have to stick to one.
You might wear one bracelet one day & choose a completely different crystal another day, depending on which one you fancy wearing.
Earrings
Earrings give you another option if you want something a little more subtle.
I’ve got amber earrings on the website & amber is particularly interesting because technically it's not a crystal at all; it's fossilised tree resin.
Amber has its own fascinating history. Amber from the Baltic region was traded across Europe & beyond & was made into beads & pendants.
It was valuable enough to be traded over long distances, so wearing amber wasn't just about having something pretty to wear.
Pendants
Pendants are another popular way to wear crystals.
I've got amethyst, black obsidian, iolite, lapis lazuli, leopardskin jasper, rose quartz & ruby in fuchsite pendants, as well as a chakra pendant, it’s got seven slices in the colours of the chakras bonded together.
One of the nice things about a pendant is that you can wear it with different outfits.
Because the crystal sits around your neck, you get to keep a crystal you like close to you throughout the day.
Again, there's no complicated rule about which crystal you should choose.
Pick one because you like the crystal, the colour, the shape or its energy.
Amethyst has been worn as jewellery for thousands of years too.
The Ancient Greeks linked it with Dionysus, the god of wine & it's believed that wearing amethyst could help keep the wearer from getting drunk.
Amethyst later became popular in religious jewellery & royal jewellery as well.
What should you choose?
There's no single type of crystal jewellery that's right for everyone.
If you like bracelets, choose a bracelet.
If you prefer necklaces, choose a pendant.
If you normally wear earrings, have a look at those.
Then choose the crystal you like.
For example, rose quartz is traditionally linked to love, kindness & relationships, while fluorite is traditionally linked to focus, learning & helping you think clearly.
Carnelian is traditionally linked to confidence, motivation & creativity, while lapis lazuli is traditionally linked to communication, confidence & self-expression.
The crystal you choose is completely up to you.
& if you already have a favourite crystal, wearing it as jewellery is simply another way of enjoying it.
Wear your crystals your way
Crystal jewellery doesn't have to be complicated.
Put your bracelet on in the morning, fasten your pendant around your neck or pop on your favourite earrings & get on with your day.
You can choose your jewellery to match your outfit, your mood, your favourite crystal or simply because you like the way it looks.
That's the beauty of having so many different crystals & types of jewellery to choose from.
You don't have to choose just one.
Which type of crystal jewellery would you choose — bracelet, pendant or earrings? 💜
