Crystal Shapes – An Introduction

The various shapes available on the website

If you've ever looked at crystals, you'll probably have noticed that there are lots of different shapes & sizes.

Some crystals are polished into smooth shapes, others are left in their natural form,  are often known as raw crystals & others are carved into a variety of different things.

You can find crystals as double terminated points, palmstones, pyramids, raw pieces, spheres, towers, tumbles, wands or any other shape you can think of & they can be large or small.

Carved crystals can be made into all sorts of shapes, from angels & animals to flames, skulls & even handbags!

Why are crystals carved into different shapes?

Crystals are carved into different shapes for a few reasons; because some people like something small that they can carry around, while someone else might prefer a larger crystal to have on a shelf or beside their bed.

Raw crystals form particular geometric shapes because of the crystal’s internal atomic structure, carving the crystal alters the minerals for practical & symbolic reason & can increase the value of the crystal.

The shape can make a crystal easier to use in a particular way.

A palmstone, for example, is made to fit comfortably in your hand, while a tower has a completely different shape.

Carved crystals can be a bit more personal too.

You might choose an angel because you like angels, an animal because it's your favourite, or you might choose another shape just because you like it.

The crystal itself is still important.

An amethyst heart & a rose quartz heart are both hearts, but they're different crystals & have their own energy & traditional healing properties.

Over the next few weeks I'm going to take a look at some of the different shapes crystals come in, starting with mini crystal carvings.

We'll look at the shapes themselves, the different crystals they can be made from & some of the ways people use them.

There are quite a few different ones, so there's plenty to discover!

Who knows, you might even find a shape you hadn't thought about before. 💜
